Colorado E-Waste Law
Colorado does not have a statewide e-waste recycling mandate, but several counties and municipalities run free or low-cost programs. Many national retailers also accept electronics for recycling regardless of where they were purchased.
Free Drop-Off Programs
- ▸Eco-Cycle CHaRM (Boulder): Accepts TVs, computers, monitors, phones, printers, and more. 6400 Arapahoe Ave., Boulder. Free for most items; fee for large TVs.
- ▸Jefferson County Rooney Road: Accepts electronics at HHW events and on select Saturdays year-round.
- ▸Best Buy: All Best Buy stores accept electronics for recycling at no charge — regardless of brand or purchase location. Limit of three items per household per day.
- ▸Staples: Accepts computers, laptops, phones, tablets, and accessories at in-store recycling kiosks.
- ▸Denver Public Works HHW events: Electronics accepted at Cherry Creek Transfer Station events.

Data Security Before Recycling
Before dropping off any device that stored personal data, wipe the drive. For Windows, use the built-in "Reset this PC" factory-reset option with drive erase enabled. For Macs, erase the disk through Recovery Mode. For phones, perform a factory reset. Physically destroying a drive with a hammer before recycling is also a valid option for sensitive data.
