Boulder County Hazardous Waste: Hazardous Materials Management Facility

Published June 3, 2026

Boulder County operates one of the most comprehensive household hazardous waste programs in Colorado through its Hazardous Materials Management Facility (HMMF). This guide covers everything residents need to know.

About the HMMF

The Boulder County HMMF at 1901 63rd St., Boulder, CO 80301 provides year-round hazardous waste disposal for Boulder County residents and small businesses. Unlike many facilities that only operate on event days, the HMMF maintains regular weekday and Saturday hours.

The facility is run by Boulder County Public Health and has earned recognition for diverting millions of pounds of toxic waste from landfills each year.

Hours and Eligibility

The HMMF is open Tuesday through Saturday. Hours are approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but confirm current hours at bouldercounty.gov or by calling 303-441-4525 before visiting.

Service is free for Boulder County residents. Small businesses may use the facility for a fee. Bring a Colorado ID with a Boulder County address.

Accepted Items

  • All paints, stains, and coatings
  • Automotive fluids (oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid)
  • Fuels (gasoline, kerosene, diesel)
  • Propane cylinders (1–20 lb)
  • Pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers
  • Batteries (lead-acid, lithium, NiCad)
  • Fluorescent lights and CFLs
  • Pool and spa chemicals
  • Cleaning products with hazard labels
  • Mercury-containing items (thermometers, switches)

Electronics and Appliances

The HMMF also accepts electronics through a certified e-waste program. Televisions, monitors, computers, printers, and other electronics are accepted at no charge for residents.

For large appliances containing refrigerants (refrigerators, AC units, dehumidifiers), call ahead — these require certified refrigerant recovery and must be scheduled separately.

How This Fits With Junk Removal

The HMMF handles the hazardous materials we can't take — paint, solvents, fuels, batteries, and chemicals. For the large, heavy, non-hazardous items (old furniture, appliances, construction debris, and general cleanout loads), Troops Junk Removal serves the Denver metro, Jefferson County, and the surrounding foothills.
