Denver Hazardous Waste Drop-Off: Cherry Creek Transfer Station

Published June 2, 2026

Denver residents can drop off household hazardous waste at the Cherry Creek Transfer Station. This guide covers what's accepted, the schedule, and how to combine your trip with other recycling needs.

About the Cherry Creek Transfer Station

Operated by Denver Public Works, the Cherry Creek Transfer Station at 4000 Havana St., Denver, CO 80239 serves as the primary HHW drop-off point for Denver residents. The program accepts a wide range of toxic and flammable household materials at no cost to Denver residents.

Bring your Denver utility bill or a Colorado driver's license with a Denver address. The facility is drive-through style — staff will unload materials from your vehicle.

Hours and Scheduling

HHW events at Cherry Creek run on a seasonal schedule, typically spring through fall on select Saturdays. Denver also runs periodic neighborhood HHW collection events throughout the city.

Check Denver's Public Works page or call 720-865-6833 for the current schedule before making the trip. Lines can be long on peak event days — aim to arrive within the first hour.

Accepted Hazardous Materials

  • All paint (latex, oil-based, stains, varnishes)
  • Motor oil and other automotive fluids
  • Gasoline and lighter fluid
  • Propane tanks (up to 20 lbs)
  • Pesticides and fertilizers
  • Cleaning solvents
  • Batteries of all types
  • Fluorescent tubes and CFLs
  • Fire extinguishers

Tips for a Smooth Drop-Off

  • Keep materials in their original containers where possible — unlabeled containers may be refused.
  • Transport liquids upright in a cardboard box or plastic tub to contain spills.
  • Do not mix chemicals in the same container.
  • Bring ID proving Denver residency.
  • Arrive early — the event can reach capacity and turn vehicles away.
