Couch & Sofa Removal

That sectional doesn't fit in your car. The thrift store won't take it stained. The landfill charges by the ton. We'll haul it same-day, donate it if we can, and route it to recycling if we can't. Flat rate starting at $65.

The reality of couch disposal

Couches are one of the hardest items to dispose of yourself.

They're oversized — a typical 3-seat sofa is 84 inches long, 36 inches deep, and weighs 100-200 pounds. They don't fit in most cars, don't fit through most apartment doors without disassembly, and are heavy enough that lifting them with one person creates real back injury risk. The City of Golden's bulk pickup program will take couches in some cases, but scheduling can be weeks out and access requirements (curbside, no debris attached, dry condition) eliminate many couches.

Thrift stores have tightened their acceptance standards dramatically over the last five years. ARC, Goodwill, and Habitat ReStore won't take couches that are stained, have pet damage, smell like smoke, or are over 10 years old. Many won't take sectionals at all because they can't fit them in their retail displays. The result: couches that would have been donated 10 years ago now sit on curbs waiting for bulk pickup that may not come.

Landfills charge by the ton. A typical 150-pound couch costs us $15-25 at the scale, plus the time and fuel to drive it there. Most homeowners trying to dispose of a couch DIY underestimate the total cost — pickup truck rental, fuel, landfill fees, parking citations — and end up paying more than a professional haul.

We do this 30+ times a month across the Denver metro and foothills. We have the truck, the crew, the donation relationships, and the disposal partners. Most couches are gone within 90 minutes of you texting us photos.

Pricing

Pricing for couch removal

Most couch removals price as a single-item job:

  • Standard couch / loveseat / chair$65–$95
  • 3-seat sofa or large sectional piece$95–$135
  • Full sectional (3+ pieces)$135–$195 depending on size
  • Sleeper sofa (pull-out bed)add $19 (heavier, more crew time)
  • Stairs, narrow access, long carriessee labor-time note

A note on labor-intensive jobs: Some couch removals take longer than a standard pickup — stairs, narrow apartment doorways requiring disassembly, third-floor walk-ups, or long carries from the back of a property. When a job requires significantly more labor time than the standard tier, we'll quote you a revised price in writing before any work begins. We never start work and surprise-bill afterward.

Curbside pickup discounts: If your couch is already staged at the curb, driveway end, or just inside an open garage when we arrive, we offer a discount off the standard tier price. Discount amount confirmed at quote based on size and access. Just text photos and let us know it'll be curbside-ready.

Where it actually goes

What happens to your couch after we load it depends on its condition.

Veterans organizations always go first. If your couch is in usable condition — no major stains, no pet damage, no structural issues, no smoking exposure — we route it to PickUpPlease.org, the donation program run by the Vietnam Veterans of America. PickUpPlease takes most upholstered furniture in good shape, and proceeds from sold items fund VVA programs supporting veterans and their families.

When PickUpPlease can't take an item (timing, condition, or capacity), we route to local Jefferson County partners: ARC Thrift on Kipling, Goodwill on Wadsworth, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and other local charities. Itemized donation receipts available for tax purposes on request.

If the couch isn't donatable, we route it for recycling where possible — metal frames go to scrap recyclers, wood components are reusable in some cases, and foam can sometimes be recycled depending on the partner. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to a permitted landfill as the last option.

At least 50% of what we haul gets donated, recycled, or salvaged rather than landfilled.

Honest Alternatives

Disposal options before calling us

We'll be honest: you have options before paying for professional removal. Some are free, some are slow, all are worth knowing.

City of Golden bulk pickup

Golden offers occasional bulk pickup programs for residents. Visit cityofgolden.gov for current schedule and rules. Pros: free. Cons: scheduled weeks out, strict access requirements, doesn't always take couches.

Donation drop-off

If your couch is in good condition, you can drop off at ARC Thrift (Kipling), Goodwill (Wadsworth), or Habitat ReStore. Most require you to transport the item yourself. Pros: free, tax-deductible. Cons: requires a truck or large vehicle, strict acceptance standards.

Buy Nothing / Nextdoor / Facebook Marketplace

Post your couch for free pickup. Pros: free, sometimes same-day pickup by someone who wants it. Cons: requires posting, screening, hosting strangers at your home, and many no-shows.

When to call us instead

If your couch is in poor condition, you can't transport it yourself, you need same-day removal, or you're cleaning out an estate or rental property under time pressure — that's when professional haul makes sense. Most customers who call us have already tried one or more of the above options.

What to expect from our crew

Text us photos of the couch with a description (room, access notes, any disassembly required). We respond with a written quote in 10 minutes. Same-day service is standard for couches within our 35-minute service window from our Golden HQ.

On arrival, we walk through with you, confirm the price in writing, then start work. Standard crew is two for couches; we bring three for sectionals or sleeper sofas. We protect floors and doorways, disassemble in place when necessary, load the truck, and provide a donation receipt on request before we leave.

Total time on site: typically 15-30 minutes per couch. Most of our day is driving routes; the actual removal is fast.
